How to Maintain Your Tankless Water Heater
Cleaning a tankless water heater is an essential maintenance task that can help extend the lifespan of the appliance and ensure it functions efficiently. Here are the steps to follow to clean your tankless water heater:
- Turn off the power supply and gas supply to the water heater.
- Turn off the cold water supply valve to the heater.
- Connect a submersible pump to the hot water outlet valve of the water heater.
- Place the pump and hoses in a 5-gallon bucket filled with white vinegar.
- Open the hot water and pressure relief valves on the water heater to allow the vinegar solution to flow through the unit.
- Let the vinegar solution circulate for at least 45 minutes to dissolve any mineral deposits or scale buildup inside the water heater.
- Turn off the pump and close the hot water and pressure relief valves on the water heater.
- Disconnect the hoses and pump from the hot water outlet valve of the water heater.
- Close the cold water supply valve to the heater and turn on the hot water tap in a sink or bathtub to drain any remaining water from the heater.
- Open the cold water supply valve and turn on the hot water tap again to flush out any remaining vinegar solution.
- Turn off the hot water tap and open the hot water and pressure relief valves on the water heater.
- Remove any mineral deposits or debris from the valves with a wire brush or toothbrush.
- Close the hot water and pressure relief valves on the water heater.
- Turn on the cold water supply valve to the heater and wait for the heater to refill with water.
- Turn on the power supply and gas supply to the water heater.
